Sneaky! Cookie Dough Bites

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Several months back, I had starred my friend Katie's blog post about these "healthy cookie dough bites," originally from this blog. (I'm also told these have made the pinterest rounds too, but I'm spotty on Pinterest at best.)

I finally got around to making them, and boy are they great. Excepting the chocolate chips, there's really nothing in this list of ingredients to feel guilty about (in my opinion)! You'll really be surprised

  • 2/3 cup raw almonds
  • 2/3 cup raw walnuts
  • 2/3 cup oats
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 cup raw agave nectar
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp dark chocolate chips

Just blend up in the food processor, roll out and freeze!

They really are a tasty fake. Thanks, internet!

Besides our (mostly jolly) daily chug through the life, the most exciting thing going on right now is that we're refinancing our house. How's that for a blog topic?

Besides that, we've started watching Game of Thrones (Jonny's reading the books too), and getting sno cones at Jerry's when we think the line won't be too long. Little Peanut is taking tiny steps by herself when she wants to (which isn't too often just yet).

Loves watching that record spin. (At what age does standing on your toes like that start to hurt?)

11 Months!

It's really happening. This baby is going to be a year old soon, and there's absolutely nothing I can do about it. And it's hurting my heart.

Dear Baby,

You are still my baby and you always will be. I'm just glad you go to school and get called by your name all day so at least you know what it is. Because I cannot quit calling you merely "Baby."

Despite my lack of detailed posts, months 9-11 have been eventful and of course full of passed milestones. You crawled. Then you pulled up. Then you "cruised." You now stand. You are enjoying walking holding on to our fingers (when you want to), and we believe you will legitimately walk before too long (though I'm not rushing you too much!).

One of our favorite tricks of yours from the past few months is that you've learned to say, with distinction, "uh-oh." But, you are still learning what exactly constitutes "uh-oh" (I am trying to teach you that throwing something across the room is not an "uh-oh").

You also say sounds that are associated with specific things, like "ba-ba" for bottle, and what sounds exactly like "duck" for "duck" (or it could also be cup?), dada, mama, you've said "papa" and what sounded like an attempt at "grandad" last night. You really are doing well at trying to repeat back what we say to you.

You do the sign for "please" like a champ, and are halfway to being able to do "all done" (though your current attempt at "all done" is too cute. It involves one hand up and moving and the other one half way up, limply, with a smile). You also do this hilarious sound "baba-bwah-bwah-bwah" and roll your lips and have the most concerned look on your face. We're not sure what it all means. Here is the progression (ba-bwah top left, then back to normal):

You love love love playing! And you love playing at school! So much so, in fact, that you barely sleep there (anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and only one nap!). You make up for it on the weekends, taking long naps, and recently, you have been ASLEEP by 6:45 or earlier...just so wiped from playing so hard. You'll sleep until about 6:30 in the morning.

You like playing with books, pop-up toys, stuffed animals, your stackable rings (a favorite), and your new favorite are the Russian nesting dolls Grammy & Grandad brought you from their recent trip there.

You are still just a smiley ray of sunshine, never meet a stranger, and are apparently one of the most verbal kiddos in your class. I think you will be a talker! Besides saying uh-oh, you also like to give "kisses"...alternates between a fish face and sort of smacking your lips. It's a definite crowd-pleaser.

You still love your loveys and paci for naptimes and bedtime.

You also love your pink mouse that Mrs Debbie gave you for Christmas. She/he's probably your favorite stuffed animal at the moment, besides your loveys.

You're wearing size 12-18 m clothes, size 4 diapers, and you eat three meals a day, an afternoon snack, and four bottles. Yep, nursing is over (tear). But we took our sweet time weaning and allowed me plenty of time to get used to the idea. And we exceeded my arbitrary goal of 9 months (stopped just a week shy of 10 months).

(with Uncle Grant & Elliot)

You like most foods we've given you and are doing great with table food. Some favorites are fruit (all kinds! esp kiwi and strawberries), canned green beans, shelled edamame, and of course, puffs. You had your first taste of ice cream on July 4th and your first taste of sno cone on your 11 month date. You of course loved both!

Love to ride in the cart, but want to see forward!

Also, we welcomed your first boy cousin at the end of May! We had a fun time with Uncle Michael & Aunt Jamie going to Nashville to visit Baby Reason. That trip was also the first time I was away from you overnight (was taking a professional class for several days). It was tough but I enjoyed looking forward to reuniting with you at the end of the week :)

We love you, like you a whole lot, and we can't quit talking about you.

Baby's First Independence Day

Yesterday, at the annual neighborhood parade, I couldn't help but remember last year, when I was a mere 5ish weeks from delivering this sugar plum...

...and how I volunteered to drive the float, so I could sit in the truck's air conditioning. And I (again) was thankful to be enjoying this little one outside of my belly this summer.

We had fun!

Playing in the water from the fire truck a little...(I told Jules, next year you'll be able to run free! She wanted us to let her loose so badly!)

(argh with the bad focusing on the 4S...user error, I guess.)

With (great) Granny...

The band:

The crowd (and a balloon column--did you know the price of helium has shot up (pun intended) over the past year?):

The cutie pies (Jules and her buddy Rhet)...they never looked at the camera at the same time, of course!

Looking at the firetruck's water with Aunt Martha...

The extent of the baking as I could muster this year (mostly due to the prospect of a hot kitchen?)...

Trying ice cream for the first time at the evening cookout (Miss Ann's homemade vanilla)!

Don't be fooled...she LOVED IT.

I always look at photos like this one below and for a split-second think, "is she really mine? how is this possible?"

(and why did you leave that gum showing in the photo, Leslie? ugh!)

The Wednesday holiday has proved to be pretty Twilight Zone. Dropping Juliette off at school this morning totally felt like a Monday. I was annoyed with the late-night fireworks revelry in our neighborhood last night because, duh, don't we all have to go to work tomorrow? But it's Thursday. So it's like we had a weekend in the middle of the week. Except not.

Great job, America.
