Some Stuff

Sunday, January 30, 2011

My Granny lives in a high-rise building with condos. On her floor outside the elevator, there's a little console table that the residents of the 6th floor like to decorate with seasonal items (Christmas, 4th of July, etc.)

I loved this month's addition to the glass birds and clear beads:

When we asked Granny about it, she said, "Oh, we put that out sometimes in case people need to sharpen their pencils. You know."

Uh, no? But well done.

Also, I don't think I showed you this chair I got at Sheffield's Antique Mall last summer for $60:

I bought new fabric with a gift card (at Broom Corn, locally), and was going to save up for the upholstery job (no way I am balla enough to try that one on my own...unlike Stephanie and Lauren!).

My mom stole away the fabric and the chair one day before Christmas when just Jonathan was home and surprised me with it:

I love how it turned out. The toile in orange will be timeless but still a little "unexpected" as they say. {Cliff, pick your jaw up off the floor.} Thanks, Mom!

(also you can kinda see my den curtains in the background that Granny and Martha helped me with.)

Slowly but surely.

Monthly Desktop Calendars by Sissy

Monday, January 24, 2011

For those of you who read this blog and not my sister Martha's, I want to spotlight a monthly feature she gives us over on her blog.

Every month, she makes these sweet patterns for you to download for your computer or phone background.

Download this month's here. What a talented little missy!

In other randoms, I've really been really enjoying Parenthood on NBC. Have yall been watching it?

One of my favorite parts of the show is the set design. They're so comfortable and well-done.

Check it out if you haven't yet. Lauren Graham is a perennial rockstar.

Cold Weather Survival

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

For me, it includes the following:

I've never looked back since acquiring last year. My toes would probably be gone by now if it weren't for these puppies.

I made this Lemony Hummus...

Sliced up some pita, brushed with olive oil, baked for a bit...

{phone pic alert!} MMMM warm carbs + dip!

Then, we had a hankering for some Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies, so I gave these a try (they're really similar to the recipe on the inside of the Quaker Oats container, but just a bit more flour and a nutmeg addition):

And this tea:

Can only justify buying it when I have Christmas or birthday money. My favorite.

Also, I've been reading (and enjoying greatly!) Mansfield Park on my mom's kindle (we're dummies and left our books at the lake over New Year's weekend).

Bundle up and happy winter!

Snow Day

Monday, January 10, 2011

Everything is so much prettier when you wake up to a freshly white wonderland...

Since this happens about twice a year (tops) in Memphis, I can say this: I wish we had snow more often! (people in other parts of the country might beg to differ.)

It's so dreamy. Even my kitty is mesmerized.

Here was our view at breakfast:

Happy Monday, wherever you are, and whatever it looks like outside.

2011 One-Page Calendar

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Happy New Year, friends!

Last week was crazy...I was sick for over a week (yes during Christmas too!) and since it was the end of the year, I had no more sick/personal days left. It was a tough week trudging through when I felt so awful. But I guess whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

Now I'm back, and I created this letter-sheet size, single-page 2011 calendar.

It's perfect for the office desk wall beside my computer at work, and now I have something to cross off the months (see: optimist/pessimist post on this here).

Download it and print from this link.

Here's a visual for you (but print for the link for the correct format):

If you have any problems with getting it from the link, email me and I can email you the pdf directly. (this is my first time to try to embed a pdf in a post.)

Hope this little goody compensates for my blog absence. :)

Yay for 2011...I have a feeling it's going to be stellar.
