Save Johnnytrendsetter

Friday, February 27, 2009

One of the links on the right of this blog is for a little blog known as Johnny Trendsetter.

Here, this anonymous "Johnny" outlines different sorts of trends he perceives to be on the horizon. It includes things such as fantasy weathermen and implementing sign language in case of bandit attacks, which who knows? one day, we will look back and thank him for his foresight and wit.

So that is why I urge you, my friends, to please visit Johnny's blog and post comments pleading with him not to cease publication of his blog; for him to do so would prove a great modern tragedy.

Look at these adorable handwritten stamps! I love love love this etsy shop, Lettergirl, found via numerous design/etsy/kitsch blogs, but notably this one, Oatmeal & Cinnamon.

I also love this birch bark vase, listing is here. Martha and I have been looking for a wood slice for a while, for this DIY centerpiece we found on design*sponge (I'm not going to put the link b/c then we'll never find a wood slice). Maybe I'll lay off the etsy links later in the week, sorry folks. There are just so many treasures!

Saw this on Jesse's friend Katie's blog and it's so beautiful. Pretty much everything in this girl Amanda Archer's etsy shop is stunning. Oh my little sewing machine, how I wish we could have a relationship. Even if we did, I'm not sure we would make music...

While I'm giving props, here's a picture of some really sweet notecards from aforementioned Katie's etsy shop Micah & Me... I've ordered several sets from her in the past, and have always been so pleased! See listing for these cards here.

The Saturday Nap

Monday, February 16, 2009

So it's a widely-accepted fact that Sunday afternoon naps are imperative. In our household on Sunday, we go to church at 9 a.m., usually eat lunch with one of our families or some friends, and then go home around 1-2 p.m. and crash. (Jonathan, it must be said, not so much I-must-take-a-nap-or-perish.) And rainy weather notwithstanding, I am darn GOOD at these naps. I can conk out for a solid 2 hours, no problem.

Recently, though, I have been dabbling with the addition of the Saturday afternoon nap. Now Saturday is not the last-chance effort that Sunday afternoon is... so there's less pressure to get in a "good one." Nonetheless, the craving for a two-nap weekend has become a regular propensity for me. Poor Jonathan... I don't know how to retract my growing love for the Saturday nap! It's become necessary.

p.s. I LOVE this little notebook...so cute! Find the listing here.

What's with people saying "m-bye" ?

How did this develop? Where does it come from? How does one get oneself into this habit?

Work Casualty

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

I've started typing and writing like I write at work and like I text. It's terrible. At work, I make calls and have to enter detailed call notes; however, there is limited space and I've been forced to implement abbreviations for words like "pick-up" (p/u) and "inv" (invoice) and "ppt awbs" (pre-printed air waybills) and "ab" (about), not capitalizing I, etc.

In these notes, I've also ceased using subject pronouns. Instead of "I will follow-up with Jane," I write, "will f/u w/Jane." This also applies to text messages. Instead of "I'll send it to you" it becomes "send it tonight." (No, I have not yet succumbed to "2" instead of "to" and "u" instead of "you.")

This has started trickling over into my email and blog comment verbiage, and I must tell you: I don't like it. It goes against everything I believe in for the written word. I see no solution on the horizon. Does text-speak affect the other writing in your life? Help!

"New" stuff

Wednesday, February 04, 2009

This is my "new" thing, I guess you could say: printing a monogram or initial on a flat card for writing on top of. Haven't sold any yet on etsy, but I just listed them recently and have made several for gifts, link here.

Also got a big order for my Oh Darling! cards that I sent to Australia last week, which was exciting! shameless plug, sorry

And yes, I am in the legion of the devastated over the news that Domino is closing up shop. Completely devastated. article here
