Grown-Up Email Addresses

you know who you are. it's time.

If you are out of college, it may be wise to consider some sort of non-nickname, non-numeric (if possible), non-team/school/sports/birthday-affiliated email address.

I realize this is just my opinion.

But it never fails to surprise me when, at work, a customer may tell me in all seriousness that her email address is something like, "dixiemama289@suchandsuch.com" ....what? That's your business email address?

I was LApril88@aol.com with the best of 'em...but the ship has sailed.

Maybe i'm a snob? I just can't take these jokester/cutesy email addresses seriously anymore.

ha, ha, ha. I actually taught a "How to design a resume class" at a high school in Memphis and had to explain to them the same thing. I think the discussion started after I read "onehotmama@hotmail.com" at the top of a resume

You might have to repeat this for my dear sweet "flygirlschepp", from hotmail. Seriously.

Haha, I think it's funny to think about people having email addresses when they were kids. You little youngins! (Totally tongue-in-cheek, btw.) ;)

Leslie, I agree that everyone should have a grown-up address. If they want to keep their ilovebunnies599@hotmail.com then whatev. But there should be a professional alias. My 2 cents.

hahaha agreed! but what about this: i have a grown-up email address, but i use my silly high school hotmail address for mailing lists and facebook and stuff. i definitely am embarrassed to spell it out for a cashier, but i don't want that stuff coming to my gmail account! is that allowed?

I posted something similar in a "tips if you want to get hired" post on the Muddy's blog. I can't tell you how many job requests I get from sexymama69@something.com and beershotgunnr@blahblah.com... pathetic.
