I've gotten several (in person) comments recently that have led me to address the issue of this blog's title.
Yes, it's true: I really cannot wear earrings anymore. Apparently, my skin is allergic to metal. Yes, this includes my wedding rings. Yes, I'm suffering through it and wearing them most of the time anyway. The last time I wore earrings for more than a few minutes was at our wedding. My ears were red, swollen, itchy, etc. afterward. Now, they're almost closed up (I can get an earring about halfway through from the front on each ear).
I don't know how this happened. One day, in college, one of my earlobes got infected, so I took my earrings out and doctored it for several weeks. After trying to put my earrings back in, they immediately were inflamed, red, etc., again. I've tried hydrogen peroxide, neosporin, rubbing alcohol, and Lotrimin, all to no avail.
And for most of 2007, my wedding ring finger has been broken out around the knuckle and underneath where the band is, and my pinky finger is red where it touches my ring. The dermatologist says that there is really no solution for this. He gave me some prescription hydrocortisone cream but there is no real cure. I was always a pearl studs kind of girl anyway, so not being able to wear earrings isn't the hugest loss in the whole world... but, it does stink if you're trying to feel all dressed up, and you can't put earrings on. I've gotten used to my face without them, by now.
p.s. We returned from the truly magical land of Disney on Monday morning, and yes, it was an unbelievably good time. I will load some pictures once we find our camera battery charger. AND I GOT TO MEET MARY POPPINS (no, not Julie Andrews)!
