Crazy Sched.

Thursday, October 26, 2006

As a full-time retail professional, I have a different schedule than most full-time working adults. My husband works M-F 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. CST. I work 2 p.m.-11 p.m., 8 a.m.-5 p.m., 7 a.m.-9 a.m. then 5 p.m.-10 p.m., and etc. etc. You get it. My schedule is always different. There are definite aspects of this which are great: I can do grocery shopping on a Monday off, during the day when everyone's at work. I can take a really long shower at 11 a.m. before I go in at 1. I can work out, go to morning aerobics classes, or be off all day on a weekday and make Jonathan a really nice dinner. I also sometimes miss Sunday School class, Gilmore Girls, or Jonathan getting home from work. There's a definite trade-off.

Probably the biggest contemplation at this point, after having lived this way for several months, is my sleep schedule. Now, as I told Brooke this morning, I like being up early. Honestly. You can get so much accomplished in the mornings. But, I have to be frank, it is not easy for me. I am not one of those once-awake-always-awake type of people; I can fall asleep again at the drop of a hat. With several mornings off a week, I have the chance to sleep in longer than I normally would, while still going to sleep at the same normal 11 p.m.-ish time as Jonathan. So, this is mainly a confession: I am not good [yet] at being an adult who can just pop out of bed at 7:00 a.m. But it isn't for lack of wanting.

Candy Corn

Tuesday, October 17, 2006

I guess the whole world needs to know that this is the very first year I've ever liked candy corn. I may have tried it twice-thrice before the 2006 Halloween season, and all but turned up my nose at the taste and texture.

Something magical has happened this year. It tastes so delicious! I can not eat just one piece... and sadly, I've already bought 3 bags for our household (don't worry--I've have taken 2.5 of these bags to work to enjoy with my co-workers in the breakroom). The texture? Perfectly sugary. The taste? Honey and delicious sweetness. The color? All the more seasonal-appropriate.

If you don't like candy corn [yet], listen up: it might take a while, but give it a shot. It only took me 22 years to LOVE it.
